2006 California Ford Mustang GT

The Kalinowski’s 2006 Redfire Mustang GT Premium was built in Flat Rock Michigan and bought new in Southern California.

We were looking at classic Mustang GT’s and the cost of restoring one. Then the new Mustangs came out in 2005. After researching all the technical improvements on the new Mustang, we decided that the new version was the best of both worlds. It was a classic look of the 60’s with all the modern technology and reliability.
The only problem was that all the dealers were marking the Mustang GT’s up another $5000 over sticker. I did not want to play that game. As it turned out our neighbor was good friends with our hometown dealer’s son and had him call us. We told him that we weren’t paying over sticker for any car. He assured us that wouldn’t be a problem. As it turned out we got the car close to dealer cost and drove out with a 2006 Mustang GT.

We immediately joined the Orange County Mustang Club, one of the biggest in California with about 350 members. We went on some great cruises in Southern California.
The most memorable, and last, with the Orange County Club was the Mulholland cruise. We started inland on Mulholland Drive, where many movie stars live, and after about 2 hrs. of winding mountainous roads we landed at the Pacific Ocean, near Malibu. Fantastic cruise with about 20 cars.

We moved to the Hill Country in Bulverde, Texas in January 2011, which meant driving 2 cars 1350 miles. The Mustang rode great. It was the farthest it had ever been in just a few days. Luckily, there were no rock dings from the trip. Even with driving from California the car just recently in 2016 turned over 16,000 miles. Low mileage for a 2006.

My only complaint is that “Big Red” never saw a drop of rain til we moved to Texas. The locals call that a Texas Baptism.

We joined the San Antonio Mustang Club soon after moving here and have really enjoyed it.
